Cedar Falls Public Library is a welcoming community space in downtown Cedar Falls, offering books, movies, games, technology resources, study areas, educational programs, and events for all ages. It’s a good place to settle into a quiet reading spot upstairs, bring kids to the Youth Department play area, or join a program on the library calendar.
The library also offers creative spaces and hands-on activities. The upper level is home to the makerspace, where visitors can sew, use a Cricut, and work on projects. Families can enjoy children’s activities, crafts, scavenger hunts, coloring pages, and the library’s familiar friend, Fable the Fox.
Just inside the front door, The Book Nook sells gently used books, puzzles, and library merchandise. Run by volunteers and members of the Friends of the Cedar Falls Public Library, the shop keeps prices low, and 100% of proceeds support CFPL programs, events, and resources.
Behind the library along State Street, the outdoor Music Garden offers a fun, hands-on stop available 24/7. Visitors can play six colorful instruments, including Harmony Bells, Liberty Bells, a Sunflower Petal Drum, a Cyclone, Cattail Chimes, and a Cavatina. It’s designed for relaxed play, creativity, and sensory fun for many ages and abilities.
For more outdoor fun with the whole family, combine reading, nature, and movement at the Big Woods Lake StoryWalk®.
The library also serves as a convenient stop while exploring downtown, with public restrooms, drinking fountains, and a place to cool off or warm up during extreme weather.
See the Program Calendar for upcoming events.
