Cranksgiving is an event started in New York City in 1999. By using cyclists to gather food items for area homeless and hungry, a new tradition was born: Cranksgiving. The Cedar Valley has its very own food drive on a bike starting in 2009 and is the longest running Cranksgiving event in Iowa! This annual charity ride is part bike ride, part food drive, and part scavenger hunt. The ride starts and ends at AMVETS Post 49 Cedar Falls. The ride ends with awards, socializing and fun! All you will need is a bike, bag, lock, a little money ($15-$20), and a big smile. Interested in running, they will provide an abbreviated list! Proceeds from the event go to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank and the Cedar Bend Humane Society.
